Tanzania 10 day Wildlife Safari

DAY 1 - WASHINGTON D.C.

Depart from Washington D.C. (Dulles Airport) for an overnight direct flight to Addis Ababa.

DAY 2 - ARUSHA, TANZANIA

Morning arrival into Addis Ababa with a convenient connection for your flight to Mt. Kilimanjaro airport. Meet and Greet services at the airport and transfer to the Arusha Coffee Lodge cradled in the endless acres of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation. This boutique hotel lodge has been designed around the farms original plantation homes. Enjoy the balance of the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

DAY 3 - TO LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Meet your Safari Guide for a morning briefing who will be with you throughout your one week vacation. After lunch board your 4x4 Safari Vehicle (6 guaranteed window seats) and commence your drive into the Bush country. Drive by many picturesque African villages as well as maze, coffee and banana plantations. Drive through a scenic escarpment and arrive at the deluxe Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, with its spectacular views of Lake Manyara. (B, L, D)

DAY 4 - TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

This morning enjoy the first of many game drives that awaits you in Northern Tanzania. Lake Manyara National Park in the Great Rift Valley offers a series of fascinating and beautiful Lakes. Every imaginable East African animal is found here. Herds of buffalo, zebra and several varieties of gazelle inhabit this area. Witness some of the most amazing pods of hippos that congregate at the lake. Though you may spot some tree climbing lions, it will be the abundant flocks of Pink Flamingos that will leave you in amazement. After your lunch at the Lodge enjoy a scenic drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you’ll hopefully start spotting wild life game well before you enter Serengeti National Park. Check in at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 5 - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The Serengeti is legendary as the most complex and least disturbed eco system on earth. This morning’s game drive will introduce you up-close viewing of possibly up to 30 species of large herbivores and nearly 500 species of birds. Return to the Lodge for lunch and this afternoon continue your safari game drive to complete your list of having viewed the well known Big 5 herbivores that reside in the open savannah of the Serengeti. DAY 6 - TO NGORONGORO CRATER

Board your 4x4 this morning and drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The highlight today is to visit a local Masai village to be introduced to their social and cultural heritage. Afterward enjoy a picnic lunch in the “bush” before proceeding to the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. This unique lodge sits on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, facing in a westerly direction affording spectacular sunsets. (B, L, D )

DAY 7 - NGORONGORO CRATER

Descend 2,000 feet into Ngorongoro Crater for a thrilling game drive among Africa’s Big 5; lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. Also explore the forest area that is inhabited by monkey and elephant. Visit the lake area, where you may see flamingos and the open savannah where lions hunt for food. As one of the largest calderas in the world it is considered the “Garden of Eden”. Enjoy a picnic lunch during this full day game drive. (B, L, D)

DAY 8 - TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast depart for Tarangire National Park. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Check-in at the Sopa Lodge for lunch followed by a game drive. This area is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. (B, L, D)

DAY 9 - TO MT. KILIMANJARO AIRPORT/ ADDIS ABABA

A short transfer returns you to the town of Arusha, which was the setting of John Wayne’s 1962 epic film Hatari. After lunch continue on to Mt. Kilimanjaro airport for your flight to Addis Ababa connecting with your evening flight to Washington D.C. (B, L)

DAY 10 - WASHINTON D.C.

DAY 9 - ARUSHA TO ZANZIBAR ISLAND

After your Tanzania Wildlife Safari fly south to Zanzibar Island. This was a major Indian Ocean trading center but today it appears to have been frozen in time from two centuries ago. Your resort hotel (or similar) is located 20 minutes from Stone Town and the first class Mbweni Ruins Hotel is an excellent base for the next three nights.

DAY 10 - ZANZIBAR ISLAND

This morning enjoy a walking tour of Stone Town and visit the Old Dispensary the home where Dr. David Livingstone lived before his famous expedition. Visit the Peace Memorial Museum for an interesting look at Zanzibar history. Visit the Palace Museum which in 1911 was the residence of the Sultan of Zanzibar. Before lunch visit Arab Fort with its castellated battlements built in 1701. This afternoon appreciate why Zanzibar was known as the “The Spice Island”, the result of being one of the world’s most important producers of clove, nutmeg and cinnamon in the 19th century. Experience a taste of rural life and meet the locals. See how spices are grown in the wild. Plenty of opportunity for smelling and tasting spices, herbs and tropical fruits. (B, L)

DAY 11 - ZANZIBAR ISLAND

Enjoy a full day of leisure to enjoy the amenities offered at the resort. With its beach side location and swimming pool there are numerous aqua sports activities available. Others may wish to consider returning back to the UNESCO site of Stone Town. (B)

DAY 12 - TO USA

Enjoy a morning of leisure before your early afternoon transfer to the Zanzibar Airport. Fly to Addis Ababa to connect with your flight to Washington D.C. (B)

DAY 13 - USA
